ASA of Wisconsin – Dedicated Subcontractor Advocate
The American Subcontractors Association of Wisconsin (ASA of Wisconsin) is committed to ensuring that our members’ voices are heard at the federal, state, and local level and it works tirelessly to ensure the continued success of the subcontractor industry through focused and strategic advocacy efforts.
ASA of Wisconsin believes in the fair and equitable distribution of liability risk on construction projects. The ConsensusDocs, which were published in 2007 and endorsed by nearly every national contractor and owners association in the country, demonstrates that the industry can move forward on this issue in a way that benefits everyone involved. ASA of Wisconsin actively supports legislation that would take these already agreed-upon principles and make them a part of every construction contract in the state.
In addition to risk transfer, ASA of Wisconsin monitors legislation and administrative rules that affect the construction industry as a whole and how these rules will affect subcontractors more particularly. In any given session, there can be dozens of bills that might impact our members – from the budget and the capital building program, to separate prime mechanical bids on state projects, to Worker’s Compensation and other employment related topics, to bidding requirements, to taxes and tax exemptions, to liens, to substance abuse testing, to contractor registrations, or to licensing. ASA of Wisconsin is making certain that subcontractors’ interests are well represented and articulated. We are the only statewide organization that represents all subcontractors, regardless of trade or union affiliation. In fact, we are the voice for as much as 85 percent of the construction volume and employment in the state!
As a result of our past and current efforts, we have altered our industry’s landscape, making it one of the better states to be a contractor, and, more specifically, a subcontractor. But there is much work to be done – and we need your support!
We encourage our members to become more active in working with their legislators. The more subcontractors we can unite around these tasks, the more effective we can be in eliciting change in our industry.
