Better, Faster, Stronger: What Arizona's New Law Means for Payments to Subcontractors

On May 11, 2010, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed S.B. 1375, a law that will strengthen the payment rights of construction subcontractors throughout the state. "Every subcontractor should be aware of the new law's provisions, ensure that contracts reflect them, and know how to exercise their rights," says podcast presenter Richard Usher, Hill & Usher LLC, Phoenix.

AMERICAN SUBCONTACTORS ASSOCIATION OF WISCONSIN SUPPORTS CAMP HOPE

MONEY RAISED AT AWARDS DINNER SUPPORTS CHILDREN's CAMP

The American Subcontractors Association of Wisconsin (ASA-WI) announced today that it will be making a donation of more than $4,000 to Camp HOPE (Helping Others' Pain End) .  The contribution represents a portion of the proceeds of various fundraising events, including silent and live auctions that took place during the association's annual Awards Dinner held Tuesday, April 27.

Camp HOPE, located in central Wisconsin, is a place where children and teenagers gather to work through the grieving process after a loved one dies. The camp gently guides the children and teenagers through the complex emotions by showing them that they are not alone.  The children and teenagers learn that it is okay to laugh and play and that to do so is not disrespectful to the memory of the person who died.  Through playing, sharing, and being together with peers and staff who know the pain, the children and teenagers realize that the emotions they are feeling are normal parts of grief.

Representatives from Camp HOPE were present to thank the ASA of Wisconsin, its members, and the many donors for their efforts and to explain in greater detail the work being done by the organization.

Kevin Henrichs, President of ASA of Wisconsin said, "Subcontractors are the heartbeat of the construction industry and our efforts on behalf of Camp HOPE show just how big that heart is and how strongly it beats.  They're a great charity to work with.    It was a great event for a great cause."

The ASA has presented awards to outstanding General Contractors, Architects, Engineers, and project leaders since 1990.  In addition, ASA of Wisconsin has presented awards to those providing distinguished and meritorious service as well as non-contractors who are recognized for their work on behalf of subcontractors and the construction industry.

Established in 1986, the American Subcontractors Association of Wisconsin is the only association representing all subcontractor trades across the State.  ASA-WI serves its members through advocacy, education, and through the promotion of successful relationships within the construction industry.  ASA-WI is a chapter of the American Subcontractors Association (Alexandria, VA) which represents more than 3,500 contractors across the nation.
